Daddy Yankee Confirms His Retirement

Daddy Yankee, the very first name we get in our mind when we try to remember Spanish songs. Daddy Yankee, also known as DY debuted 30 years ago in 1992 by releasing his first track, Playero #34 – Underground Reggae – The Mixtape. He was one of few rappers to get the public spotlight in a very short time. Starting in 1992, he got a good fanbase within 2000.

His song Gasolina which was released in 2004 was one great success. Everyone liked it. This song got so popular that it led to the establishment of a new radio format in the U.S., Latin Rhythm Airplay. Likewise, Daddy Yankee got to be part of history, as he was featured on the song Despacito.

Despacito is a song that topped the charts in 47 countries. This song was termed as the most vibing doing of 2010s. Its music video on YouTube was the most viewed music video on YouTube in 2017.

He announced his retirement via his YouTube video statement posted on 21 March 2022.
