Comic actor and writer Rowan Atkinson starred on the TV series ‘Not the Nine O’clock News’ and ‘Blackadder.’ He is best known for his infamous role as Mr. Bean in the television series and 1997 feature film of the same name.
Rowan Atkinson full name is Rowan Sebastian Atkinson. He was born on January 1955 (age 63) in Consett, County Durham, England, on 6 January 1955.
His parents were Eric Atkinson, a farmer and company director, and Ella May, who married on 29 June 1945. His three older brothers are Paul Atkinson, Rodney Atkinson, and Rupert Atkinson.
Atkinson was brought up Anglican and was educated at Durham Choristers School, a preparatory school, St Bees School, and Newcastle University. There he received a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1975, he continued for the degree of MSc in Electrical Engineering at The Queen’s College, Oxford.
He started his acting career by appearing in a series of comedy shows for BBC Radio 3 named ‘The Atkinson People’, in 1978. The next year, he did a one-of-a-kind pilot for a sitcom called, ‘Canned Laughter’.
He got local fame through his sitcom and went on to earn a role in a sitcom, ‘The Black Adder’.
From 2001 to 2003, he appeared as a supporting actor in a string of films including, ‘Rat Race’, ‘Johnny English’, ‘Scooby-Doo’ and ‘Love Actually.
In addition to his supporting roles, he hit it big once again with another ‘Bean’ film, which was a sequel to the first, titled, ‘Mr. Bean’s Holiday’, released in 2007. Two years later, he appeared in a theatre role for the musical, ‘Oliver!’ directed by Rupert Goold.
