Ferne McCann’s ex-boyfriend Arthur Collins stands trial for an acid attack that has burned 16 people at an east London nightclub in April.
But Ferne admits she feels ‘stronger than ever in the midst of everything that has occurred this year. Her main focus is on her pregnancy as she prepares to give birth to a child for the first time.
Modelling for the new agenda of OK! magazine, Ferne talked about her pregnancy in a new interview clearing why she denies being labelled as a ‘single mum’.
Ferne stated: ‘I’m being strong because I have to think about my baby. The whole process of being pregnant has made me a much stronger person.’
‘They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and it really is true. I feel like I’ve developed a new Armour this year.’
The former TOWIE star, 27, declared she was OK with the baby’s father being not there with her at the time of birth as she has all the support she needs from her mother Gill.
‘I don’t think about that now because my mum is my birthing partner. I don’t dwell on how different it could have been’, the TV personality confessed.
‘Obviously, there are moments when that does cross my mind, but I’m just focusing on the positives.
‘In life, you’re dealt the hand that you’re dealt, and you actually really surprise yourself with how much you can cope with.’
Pregnant Ferne cleared that why she refuses to be branded as ‘single mum’ despite the fact that she will be looking after the baby alone.
The mother to be boldly stated: ‘I don’t like the term single mum and I don’t want to be addressed as that because I don’t think you should be labelled.
‘To me, I’m going to be a mum like anyone else, but just in a different situation. It shouldn’t define you.
‘But yes, I have done this whole pregnancy on my own, but at the same time I’m so not alone – I’ve got such a great support network with my mum, sister and friends.
‘I’ve not felt alone or been alone once during this pregnancy.’
Ferne also stated she would be choosing an unconventional name for her baby teasing her fellow celebrities.
She stated: ‘They’re definitely not traditional. They’re more out-there but they’re not wacky.
‘I think the name I choose is what people will have the most opinions on and that will bug me, but it’s my decision.’
Ferne has maintained silence in the case of her ex-boyfriend Collins’s standing trial for an acid attack. She is expected to be a mother in mid-to-late November.
Arthur, 25, injured 16 people at the packed Love Juice event at the Mangle E8 nightclub in Hackney, east London over the Easter Weekend.
He admits attacking people with acid at a nightclub – but explains he thought it was a date rape drug.
He claimed he heard clubber Makai Brown and his friends discussing spiking women’s drinks before he threw the acid.
Arthur refuses five counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and 11 counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Ferne announced her pregnancy in April just two days after the arrest of Arthur on the suspicion of throwing acid.
She told the media in April that she will move on with life as a single mother as she affirmed her determination ‘to do all she can to have a happy and healthy child.
‘Ferne is in no way seeking sympathy for her situation and is determined to do all she can to have a happy and healthy child and face the challenges of being a single parent with all her energy,’ she stated.
Her prayers are with the victims of a terrifying acid attack.
She had howled at This Morning interview as she talked about becoming a single mother.
Talking with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, she sobbed as they talked about his trials. At a point, they have to pause the interview as she couldn’t speak.
Ferne cleared: ‘It had been such a stressful, surreal situation to be in but I’m actually feeling good, feeling positive because I’m pregnant.’
‘I think that has given me strength and hope to get through this.’
Describing that she has been extremely happy with the love and support she has gained, Ferne disclosed: ‘I’ve got such a strong support group, everyone has been so amazing.
‘This is the reason why I haven’t spoken to anyone because when most women are pregnant they don’t tell anyone until they’re at that three-month stage.’
Ferne also opened up that she will be having a hypnobirth for her first baby and her mother Gill will be her birthing partner on that auspicious day.
She has been going to hypnobirthing classes with her mum that includes simple but specific self-hypnosis, relaxation and breathing techniques for the child delivery day.
